NOAH Jaguars High School Baseball Tryouts

 

Tryout Date: November 3rd at 4:00 p.m. (be there 30 minutes early to sign-in and warm-up)

 

Tryout Location: NOAH Practice Fields located at 83rd and S. 129th East Ave. (between 81st and 91st) at the New Creations Church.  There are no restroom facilities at the practice fields. The nearest facility is at the QuikTrip at the corner of 81st and 129th.  Please take care of business prior to tryout.

 

Forms:  Please go the website and print off the NOAH Liability Release – Tryout form, fill it out and bring with you to the tryout.

 

Selection Process:

Players will be evaluated for each skill on a 5 point scale.  A score of five (5) points will be awarded for any skill which the player demonstrates an exceptional level of ability.  A score of one (1) point will be awarded for any skill which the player demonstrates an extremely poor level of ability.  Scores of two, three or four points will be awarded for levels of skill in-between the two extremes.  Additional points will be awarded based on the player’s demonstrated attitude, focus and hustle.

 

The Varsity team will consist of the top 12-15 players based on their quantitative score plus intangible attributes based on coach’s discretion to complete the team. 

The Junior Varsity team will consist of the next 12-15 players based on their quantitative score.

 

The tryouts will last approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours depending on the number of prospects or until we run out of daylight. 

 

 

Tryout Format:  Each prospect will be equally evaluated for the following skills:

 

All prospects will be evaluated on base running, infield/outfield and hitting skills.

 

Time Base Running (Foot speed)

1.      Batter’s box to First

2.      Second to Home

 

Fielding and throwing

Infield positions

·         Mechanics

·         Range (arm strength)

           

Outfield Skills – catching fly balls and fielding grounders and throwing to bases

·         Arm Strength

·         Accuracy

Hitting

Hit off “live” pitching or (pitching machine)

·         Mechanics (demonstrate bunting skills)

·         Power

·         Contact

 

 

For those trying out as Pitchers and Catchers:

Pitchers will be evaluated on accuracy, speed and mechanics.

Catchers will be evaluated on catching mechanics and arm strength (throws to 2B and 3B).  Catchers will also catch during pitching evaluation. If you have your own catcher’s equipment, please bring it.  There will be catcher’s equipment available at the tryouts. 

 

NOTE:  Pitching is a premium position.  Therefore it will be weighted a little higher on the point scale.
