The NOAH Jaguars beat the Salina Wildcats 4-3 in first round
action of the Warrior Hardball Classic in Ketchum, Oklahoma.
The Diamond Jags jumped out early in the bottom of the 1st
inning as Avery Penrod walked and moved around to third on a
double by younger brother Jebediah. Senior DH Michael
Newsome hit a ground ball to shortstop who made a throwing
error to first base allowing both runners to score to put
the Jags on top 2-0. Freshman Jebediah Penrod hit his
second double of the game and later scored on a pass ball.
to make the score 3-0 through 3 innings. The Salina
Wildcats added 2 runs to draw within 3-2. The Jags added one
more run in the 4th as Andrew Smith tripled and was later
knocked in on Austin Ervin's single up the middle. NOAH's
starting pitcher, John Tyree pitched 5 solid innings giving
up 3 runs with only 1 earned. Sam Brownwood came in
the 6th inning and got help with a double-play and a strike
out to leave the tying run stranded at third base. The
Wildcats lead off the bottom of the 7th with a double and
advanced to 3rd base on the next play. The Jags
defense stiffened and got 3 straight outs to leave the tying
run at third base to preserve the 4-3 win!
