Lincoln Christian rally to beat
The NOAH Jaguars 5-4 in second round
action of the Mounds Tournament.
The Jaguars were
looking for a win after losing to Lincoln 4-2 in the Wood
Bat Festival. They started off by getting on the board first
with two runs on Justin Leekley's double in the first
inning. The Lincoln shortstop hit a home run in their
half of the first making the score 2-1, Jags on top.
The Bulldogs added a run in the 3rd inning. The Jaguars were
able to load the bases in the 4th inning but were unable to
score. They did bring across two more runs in the top of
the fifth making the score 4-2. In the bottom of the sixth
the Bulldogs had runners at 2nd and 3rd but Avery Penrod was
able to strike out the last batter and leave them stranded.
The bottom of the 7th the Bulldogs started out with a walk,
followed by two walks,and a pop out for the first out. Then
they hit two well placed singles scoring three more runs and
giving the Bulldogs the victory, 5-4. It was a hard fought,
well played game on both sides of the field.
Justin Leekley had a double and two RBIs in the game and Joe
Sabatini had two hits on the night.
Avery Penrod was the starting pitcher for the Jaguars
allowing four hits and two runs with 5 strikeouts. Freshman
Josh Lay relieved in the 7th for the Jaguars giving up 3
singles, two walks and 3 runs.
The Jaguars play Saturday, 2 p.m., in Mounds for 3rd place
against Morris High School.
