JAGS Rally to win in 8 innings over Houston Northside Falcons 19-12

This was definitely one of the most exciting games of the year. The weather changed throughout the game. We had light wind, mist, light rain, sunshine, and reports of tornadoes in the TX area. The game was similar to the weather with lots of ups and downs.

The Falcons scored first with 3 runs on 4 big hits in the bottom of the first. The Jags added two runs in the top of the second.  Falcons added another run in the 2nd inning. The Jags took the lead in the top half of the 3rd inning  with Parker McDaniel's double, Justin Leekley's single, Michael Newsome's awesome triple, and Sam Brownwood's single. The Falcons tied the game up 5-5 in the bottom half of the inning.

The Falcons then scored two more runs in the 5th and 6th innings to take a 9-5 lead heading into the 7th inning. The Jags were looking at their last at bats in the top of the 7th trailing by 4 runs. Joe Sabatini reached on an error, Justin Leekley followed with a single, Michael Newsome singled  Sabatini, Leekley and Newsome scored to cut the lead 9-8.  Brownwood and Smith drew walks advanced to 3rd and 2nd on passed balls.  With 2 outs and a 1 ball 2 strike count, Junior Avery Penrod stroked a 2 run triple to give the Jags the lead 10-9! Jebediah Penrod hit a single to score older brother Avery making the score 11-9.  In the bottom of the 7th Falcon batters reached on a single and a double.  Both runners scored on an error with 2 outs tying the game 11-11.  The game went into extra innings and the Falcon battery continued to struggle (4 of the Jag's runs were scored on passed balls and 5 on wild pitches throughout the game). The Jags broke lose for 8 runs in the top of the 8th.During the inning Justin Leekley had two doubles (he was 5 for 6 for the day with 2 RBIs, Michael Newsome added another single (he was 3 for 6 with 3 RBIs), another single for Andrew Smith, plus 4 Jags reached on walks and one by hit by pitch.  In the bottom of the 8th a lead off double for the Falcons came into score on a single and then Jebediah Penrod ended the game with a double play running across 2nd base and throwing to 1st baseman John Tyree.

Austin Ervin started on the hill for the Jags. He was tagged for 7 runs (4 earned). Avery Penrod relieved and pitched two innings giving up 4 runs on 4 hits, none of the runs were earned. Sam Brownwood ended the game for the Jags giving up 2 hits and one earned run!

JAGS WIN! 19-12

Game 3 is Friday at 11:30. With a win the Jags will play on Saturday morning at 11:00 (against the loser of the 3rd seed OKC Broncos and the 2nd seed Houston Thunder). A win in that game would put them into the Claw Back bracket's championship game and also win them a berth to the World Series in Pensacola, Florida!
