The NOAH Jaguars beat East Central JV 17-9 in first round
action of the Mounds Tournament.
The Cardinals went
ahead 3-0 in the 1st inning on a hit batsman, two singles,
and two fielding errors. The Jags answered with 4 runs
in the 2nd from two walks, a hit batsman, a fielding error
and a 2 run double by Avery Penrod. The Cards answered
with 4 more runs in the bottom of the 2nd on 5 hits and 3
fielding errors. Joe Sabatini started the 3rd inning
with his first home run of the year and the Jags kept
hitting scoring 5 more runs including a bases loaded double
by Brent Loomis. The Cards answered with 2 in the bottom of
the inning making the score 9-9. Doubles by Parker McDaniel
and Justin Leekley helped add to the 3 runs scored in the
top of the 4th. A single by Jebediah Penrod, followed by 3
straight walks and then a double by Michael Newsome who then
eventually scored on a wild pitch gave the Jags 5 more
runs in the top of the 5th.
The Jag defense put the clamps on the Cardinals, 3 up 3
down, in both the 4th and the 5th innings. The Jags take the
win with an eight run lead in the 5th inning, winning 17-9.
Joe Sabatini went 3 for 3 plus one walk and scoring 3 times.
Brent Loomis was 2 for 2, a single and a double, plus 2
walks and 4 rbi's in the game.
Austin Ervin was on the mound for the Jags allowing 9 runs,
but only one was earned. He allowed 9 hits and struck out 3
batters. Josh Lay relieved in the 5th inning getting the
first two batters to fly out
and then striking out the final Cardinal batter.
The Jaguars improve to 8-5 on the season and will play
Lincoln Christian in the semi-finals at 6 pm on Friday in
Mounds.
